There’s no hard time limit on recordings.
In practice, recordings of up to around 30 minutes work reliably on most devices. Longer recordings become more compute-intensive and may slow things down, especially on lower-powered hardware.
Echoes is designed primarily for short voice notes. For the best experience, we recommend keeping recordings under 10-15 minutes when possible.
Both Whisper and Whisper (Real-time) use the same underlying model, so their practical limits are similar (around 30 minutes). The difference is when compute happens:
• Whisper (Real-time) processes audio as you record, so it uses more compute during the recording.
• Whisper processes the audio after you stop recording, so compute usage happens at the end instead.
